Describes the present illness, personal & family histories, & mental status of a 26-yr-old woman who gouged out both of her eyes. She had long-standing major psychiatric difficulties including a schizophrenic thought disorder, possibly precipitated by her use of LSD; disturbance of sexual identity, complicated by her dislike of her body. Loss of the eyes is seen as punishment for past sexual & aggressive transgressions & provides regressive gratification of passive dependent wishes. (KM)
