22 variables of social, economic, geographic & psychological significance, including suicide rate, were analyzed for 40 countries. A high national suicide rate was found to be significantly related to the “modern technological state” (Sweden, Germany, France) & a low rate was found to be associated with the “horizontal state” (Chile, Guatamala). Results are interpreted in view of frustration theory & Durkheim’s theory of suicide.
