Reviews studies of attempters in which there was a follow-up examination & includes results of 2 of the author’s studies of 71 attempters admitted to a psychiatric clinic & 74 admitted to a traditional psychiatric hospital. The committed suicide rate among the hospital cases was 3-6 times higher than that in the clinic cases. 28% of hospital cases had nonlethal reattempts compared to 14% of clinic cases. Suggests a correlation with the higher incidence of psychosis in the hospital patients.
