Reports some preliminary results in developing scales for the estimation of suicide risk for 2 clinical types: stable life history suffering from forced change and alienated life pattern. Data reveals 12 items for the stable pattern & 20 items for the alienated group that discriminate between suicides and nonsuicides. Since only 4 items are common to the two groups, independent lethality scales would appear to be needed. (WL)
