Attempted Suicide Before and After the Communal Violence in Belfast, August 1969: A Preliminary Study

The number of patients who presented with attempted suicide during the 2 year period prior to August 1969 was compared with the number during the succeeding 2 year period. A 75% increase was noted. The average monthly rate of attempted suicide was raised from 6-10. The increase was relatively higher in male patients.
