Discusses the issues related to adolescent suicide & illustrates them with case vignettes from 2 17-yr-old girls who contemplated & attempted suicide. It is suggested that in addition to external circumstances the impact of adolescence itself can be an experience of loss that evokes suicidal preoccupation. The loss is said to be focused on the maternal object & union with her. (27 ref)
