This article examines the training & supervision of the psychiatric suicidologist. The author also presents some of the characteristics a person in this role must possess. This includes being action-oriented, community-conscious & able to work well with people in a variety of other fields. A suicidologist should also be well informed on pharmacology & internal medicine, well equipped to evaluate the medical as well as the psychiatric emergency. (3 Refs.)
