Rated 275 attempters, aged 16+, brought to emergency of the Yale-New Haven Hospital over a yr, on mood, motivation, etc. Revealed few differences in black & white profiles, contrary to theories asserting that black psychology requires different principles from that of white psychology. Found similar attempt frequencies among them, discrediting the belief that suicide is not an important psychiatric problem among blacks. Discusses areas in which white attempters scored higher, e.g. hopelessness.
