18 depressed schizophrenic out-patients were matched with non-depressed schizophrenic out-patients. It was hypothesized that those developing a depressive episode would have more risk factors for depression & would have had more life events in the past 6 months. Depressed individuals showed the social & psychiatric variables to a greater extent. Implications for future study were examined. (ME)
