“Light That Failed: Self Immolation in Vietnam”

This article describes the protests by South Vietnamese Buddhist monks (via self-immolations) in 1966. The author describes the political motivations & messages of the monks. These protests are compared to similar protests that occurred in 1963. American & South Vietnamese political & cultural responses to these suicides are discussed. (SC)
