This article is based on two reports presented at the annual meeting of American Psychiatric Association of Detroit. One study by Dr. Daniel E. DeSole of the Veterans Administration Hospital, Albany, New York, tallied suicides between May 1965 & May 1967 in obituary pages of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The second study by Dr.Walter Freeman, consulting neurologist at Agnews State Hospital, San Jose, California, found 302 suicides among psychiatrists under age 60.
