This study looks at the various ways alcoholism & depression are related. The relationships include the chance suffering of both at the same time, depression being symptomatic of withdrawal, secondary depression, or a familial relation. Follow up studies of alcoholics reveal the major cause of death is suicide. Suicide is a common consequence of both alcoholism & depression. Familial patients are likely to be normal suppressors on the Dexamethasone Suppression Test. (MRE)
