The presence of depression & hostility among self-mutilating patients is investigated. Ss were evaluated using the Hostility & Direction of Hostility Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory, Interview Schedule, & life events. Specific item differences in the depression assessment indicated a definite qualitative rather than quantitative difference in depressive symptomatology between the clinical groups. (50+ ref.)
