Abstract
Managing the Suicidal Patient in General Practice
The problems faced by a G.P. in dealing with suicidal/parasuicidal patients are examined. The common backgrounds of each are outlined and identification of such patients are discussed. Treatment strategies are suggested based on determined risk level. A second article discusses the hospital management of patients after an attempt. Assessment factors include: depressive/chronic illness, lack of social support and patient’s history. Treatment suggested include psychotherapy & drugs.
