This article attempts to demonstrate some of the psychodynamic patterns seen in suicidal patients based on different fantasies and attitudes towards death. 7 such patterns are outlined and illustated: death as abandonment, death as omnipotent mastery, death as retroflexed murder, death as a reunion, death as rebirth, death as self-punishment or atonement, death as a process that in an emotional sense has already taken place.
