Researchers have attempted to approach the problem of inaccessible living brain tissue by comparing brain tissue of those after suicide & tissue from other causes of death. Results show that those dying from suicide exhibited low concentrations of cortisol. It has been suggested that there may be a functional lack of cortisol in depression. (MRE)
