The number of suicides from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco & a proposed strategy to prevent these suicides is discussed. A civic group has called for the installation of an 8-foot-high steel fence along the walkway of the bridge. However, many San Franciscans feel money would be better spent on free mental health care, & others defend the right to commit suicide. Others believe that suicide attempters would just find another method. Clinical evidence does not support this belief.
