Health education is discussed as a primary key to suicide prevention. The special professional skills of the health educator in program planning, evaluation, community organization and communication of health information are translated into suicidological terms and programs using the traditional public health model of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Administratively and organizationally the health educator should be viewed as an essential member of the suicide prevention team.
