It was found that hoplessness was a better predictor of suicidal intent in attempted suicides than other aspects of depression. It also was found that only certain components of depression (negative outlook-anhedonia and retardation) were related to suicidal intent. Guilt, anorexia, and irritability (the other components of depression) were not related to suicidal intent.
