Variation in Homicide Rate With Latitude and Longitude in the United States

The homicide rate increases significantly from the northern to the southern states. There was also a nonsignificant tendency for the homicide rate to be higher in the western states. The three measures for latitude agreed closely, as did the three measures for longitude. The data thus differ from those on the suicide rate which increases significantly as one goes west and as one goes north.
