In 1949 the author examined 745 cases of attempted suicide, with the special target of finding out their psychic state before & especially just prior to their suicidal act. The author felt justified in speaking of a presuicidal syndrome, consisting of constriction, inhibited aggression turned against the victim’s self & suicide fantasies. (RM)
