During one year 198 patients were admitted to King’s College Hospital, London, following suicide attempts & referred to the psychiatric department. During the same period, 143 general patients were referred for a psychiatric opinion. Data relating to the group of attempted suicides are presented & some comparisons are made with the general referrals. Recent reports concerning patients attempting suicide are reviewed & the results are compared with present findings.
