This paper has several purposes: to describe the psychosocial stresses seen in adjustment to physical disability; to delineate the characterisitcs of the suicidal situtation which may arise in the course of the rehabilitation program; to present a comprehensive framework for evaluation of present or potential suicidal risk & to enumerate specific treatment approaches & tasks in the management of the suicidal situation. Brief examples from clinical practice are presented.
