Correlates of depression found in this study were compared to previous research. Working & middle-class women were interviewed through use of the PSE to see whether the presence of negative social factors influence depression onset. Findings reveal the role of social factors may be community specific & the causal role of severe events is obscure. A tendency toward depression may have a root in the woman’s personality.
