Reviews investigations concerning the nature of suicide in adolescence. The loss of a love object, identification with a deceased loved one, and stress are often factors behind the suicides. Depression is the most frequent emotion, but it may be masked by boredom or restlessness. Acting-out behaviors are common. Adolescent suicides tend to have been suggestible & hypersensitive & to have felt inadequate. Self-alienation must be treated. (19 ref)
