This paper notes an error in the bases for the suicide rates reported in Rico-Velasco and Mynko’s recent article “Suicide and Marital Status: A Changing Relationship? Accordingly, contrary to their assertion, the suicide rates of married persons age 25-59 in Franklin County, Ohio, are no higher than single persons of this age. It is also concluded that the small size of the base population in the Rico-Velasco & Mynko study reduces the reliability of a correctly computed set of suicide rates.
