Discusses cases in which one parent dies while children are living at home & how the different functions of grief are divided among the family members. One member may become a “living memorial” to the dead parent, i.e., the Family Tombstone. Another becomes the Cynic, a hyperrealist in talking about the parent & a third active member may mediate between the first two. Conflict between the cynic & the tombstone may lead to threatened/attempted suicide on the part of the tombstone member.
