Demographic and Clinical Characteristics as Predictors of Readmission: A One-Year Follow-Up

In this follow-up study, regression analysis on 175 patients identified 3 variables out of 21 as predictions of readmission within 1 year of discharge (R2=.16). These were: past history of suicidal behavior, subjective report of depression at admission, and number of prior psychiatric hospitalizations. A comparison of predictors for a 3 month and 1 year readmission is discussed in terms of identifying high-risk readmission candidates. (WAL)
