Obtained social class, occupational, and family background data from 158 epileptic prisoners, 66 hospitalized epileptics, and 180 nonepileptic prisoners. Data show that the epileptic prisoners exhibited a greater degree of depressive and suicidal pathology, especially in terms of drinking behavior, than the two other groups, although all 3 groups shared several similar social characteristics.
