The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the rates of homicide & suicide in North Carolina. Counties manifesting the 4 possible relationships between homicide & suicide have been selected: high homicide & high suicide, high suicide & low homicide, high homicide & low suicide, low suicide & low homicide. The social structural & socioeconomic factors which differentiate these counties are isolated, allowing for identification of variations in the rates of violence.
