From review of studies of treatment it is concluded: suicide prevention centres do not lower the incidence of suicide; follow-up studies find patients who attend treatment have a lower repeat rate for parasuicide; intensive follow-up is no better than conventional follow-up; outreach programme was effective in one of 3 studies; medication (flupenthixol) was better than placebo but other medication was not; there is no relationship between improved symptoms and repeat rate.
