Provides a retrospective review of 34 Alaska natives who had been admitted for treatment of self-inflicting gunshot wound. 28 were male. 20 had been using alcohol at the time of shooting. Interpersonal conflict was cited by most victims as partial motivation for the shooting. Most shootings were notpremeditated. Suicidal activity appeared to be related to cultural disruption & a lack of culturally-sanctioned techniques for acting out hostility.
