Presents a number of case vignettes & quotes from experts to illustrate the tragic practice of jailing children in the United States. Although some officials claim jailing children provides them with a safe environment, it is argued that the jailing of children can be unjust, inappropriate, & damaging. 4 of 8 cases presented in this article involved attempted or completed suicide. It is noted that, despite changes in law to prevent the jailing of children, it still continues. (RM)
