Attempted suicide is a behavioural pattern with complex psychological & sociological determinants. Authorities are divided on many issues related to its aetiology, its function in the individual & the kinds of services required for its clinical management. This study was designed to define characteristics of a group of patients for whom clinical services were being planned & as a pilot study to develop methodology for a more extensive subsequent controlled study. These are its early findings.
