Suicidal behaviour in children is presented as a serious problem which has been devalued because of cultural myths about children and underestimated incidence rates. A review of the literature indicated that etiologies included a loss, overwhelming affect, implicit directives, and intolerable situations. It is argued that school counsellors should know the facts about childhood suicide, should play a didactic role in disseminating information to teachers, parents and students.
