This study describes and analyses certain social and ecological variables associated with suicide in San Francisco and the East Bay area for the periods 1938-1942 and 1948-1952. The primary concern is with the spatial distribution of suicide and the urban typology developed by Shevky and Williams is used to determine its usefulness as a predictor of suicide. (KB)
