This study reports on the psychological characteristics of male drug suicide attempters who are in treatment. Data collected from 166 veterans included background information, symptoms, mood, social functioning, & attitude measures. Of the drug abuse patients, 26% reported having attempted suicide, & were found to be significantly more depressed, angry, insecure, & anxious than the nonsuicide-attempt drug abusers. The possibility of repeated suicide attempts is increased for drug abusers.
