Although several interesting hypotheses have been raised, little solid research has been done on the association between mental disorder & suicidal behavior. It has been customary to focus on suicide rates, but it might be more useful to determine the proportion of deaths due to suicide in a population, especially the proportions in groups of patients with different types of mental disorder.
