Problems of prediction & prevention are examined from theoretical, practical & service perspectives. At present, due to problems in data base, ethics & prior assumptions there is currently no proven scientific base for specific prediction or care focus. Schemes for the aftercare of parasuicides have yet to demonstrate their usefulness. Much room for bold imagination & vigourous experimentation remain. (GW)
