Institutionalized chronically ill patients were studied to determine if there were some significant predictors of death. Over a 12 month period data were obtained which showed those who died tended to be: younger, less religious, and have a poorer prognosis. Also, they had 50% more self-destructive behavior (eg. smoking, refusal of food and proper administration of medical treatment).(JA)
