This paper examines the effect of childloss on maternal adjustment based upon a model that proposes that detachment and personality changes are part of the bereavement process. 15 recently (avg = 7 mo.), 15 distant (avg = 52 mo.) and 15 noloss mothers completed questionaires. Recently bereaved mothers showed more anxiety and symptoms, and saw the present more negatively than the other groups, though distant loss mothers showed some emotional attachment to their dead children.(KD)
