Suicide Problem in the Therapeutic Community (IN: Suicide Research, Proceedings of the Seminars of Suicide Research, by Yrjo Jahnsson, 1974-1977)

The author discusses the risk of complications that may occur within the therapeutic milieu of the psychiatric ward. In some instances, the therapeutic community may not be adequate to meet the patient’s needs due, e.g. to many varying acute situations occurring at the same time leading to exhaustion of the treatment team or the community situation may activate some patient’s personal conflicts & increase the risk of suicide. 10 cases are presented & discussed in the foregoing contexts.
