This proceeding presents 4 cases in which patients died by suicide following psychiatric hospitalization. These cases illustrate that negligence on the part of the hospital can occur; release from hospitalization is a high-risk period for suicide; relatives should be informed of a patientÕs release or suicide immediately; & both sides should have competent representation during any legislation that may follow a suicide.
