266 community residents, helpers, & outpatient clients were surveyed using the Hope Scale, Life Satisfaction Questionnaire, Levenson’s Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, & the Quality of Life Index. Community residents were more hopeful than helpers or clients. Hopefulness was correlated positively with internal locus of control, life satisfaction, & quality of life, & negatively with control by powerful others or chance. The need for more study of hopefulness is suggested. (RM)
