The symptoms exhibited by 100 depressed patients from western India were studied & compared with the symptoms of depressed patients in other ethnic groups in India & with the symptoms of British patients. Compared to South Indian depressed patients, suicidal tendencies were significantly less. Amongst Indian patients generally, guilt feelings, obsessional & paranoid symptoms were significantly less frequent, compared with British depressed patients. (48 refs.)
