Data on month of admission to psychiatric facilities were examined for 23000 patients with a depressive disorder to determine if seasonal variations in admissions, previously described in the northern hemisphere, also exist in the southern hemisphere. Additionally, data were examined on month of occurrence of 3000 deaths due to suicide & self-inflicted injury. Suicidal deaths of males did not show significant seasonality, while those of females showed a significant incidence peak in spring.
