73 adolescents aged 12-21 who were hospitalized for threatened or attempted suicide were studied. Most common reasons given were parental relationship & guilt feelings about sex. 83% took drug overdoses or slashed their wrists. Schizophrenia was diagnosed in 1/3 of cases. The majority of patients gave a history of significant past illness & were descibed as depressed. (8 refs)
