This study reports on the follow-up of 205 male psychiatric patients who were considered suicidal risks & for whom 24 hour urinary samples & plasma cortisol levels were obtained. Within 1 – 19 months after the completion of the tests, 6 had committed suicide. It is speculated that the elevated plasma cortisol may reflect vulnerability to suicide & be causative. (17 ref)
