Seiden discusses the accuracy of the number of reported suicides caused by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge & the need for a bridge barrier. He says research is also needed & outlines a proposed study. Step 1 would examine the epidemiology of suicidal behaviour on the Bridge. Step 2 would investigate what happens to persons stopped before they could jump. Step 3 would study the belief that people prevented from committing suicide at this site would go on to commit suicide in another area.
