The usefulness & insight gained from suicide notes is discussed. A survey of the study of suicide notes is provided. It was found that simulated & genuine notes can be distinguished in many ways. However, these studies were largely deficient as they offered little insight into the understanding of self-destruction. Several sample suicide notes are provided. The author discusses them in order to shed light on the motivating factors of a suicide. (CC)
